ABOUT BECKY NEW
Becky New is an Independent Fiber and Mixed Media Artist. She specializes in spinning, weaving and dyeing of various fibers, specifically wools and cotton. Her extensive history and experience in Mixed Media allows her to reach farther than traditional styles. She enjoys finding and creating ways to turn the yarn into art, both decorative and wearable. Her studio is in Owings Mills, Maryland which is northwest of Baltimore.
Becky is a juried artist and a published writer in the Mixed Media Arts field, and has shown and sold her work in several shows and shops. She holds her BA in English/Writing/Photography from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She has continued her arts education through many classes and studies with internationally known Mixed Media and Fiber artists. These instructors include Wae Wang, Arlene Thayer, Susie Brown, Natalie Redding, Karen Pardee, Jaycee Boggs, Candy Hargett, Heather Lightbody, Tim Holtz, Lesley Riley, Kelly Kilmer, Traci Bautista, Roben-Marie Smith, Lynne Perella, Michelle Ward, Dyan Reavley and many others. Her out-take from the various classes is to learn from many, stir it and sift it, then make it her own.
Becky has extensive experience with teaching Mixed Media and Fiber Art to all ages. She continues to offer both private and group classes to those interested. She continues to publish articles and artwork in magazines, books and zines. Such international publications are Sew Somerset, Somerset Memories, Somerset Studio, Stampington Gallery, Life Images, Art Journaling, 1000 Journal Pages, and Haute Handbags. She has published in two art journaling books as well. She has self-published books of her own artwork in several different zines.
